India’s SUV expert, Mahindra which has produced successful SUVs like the XUV300, XUV500, Scorpio, etc is all set to come up with an all-new compact SUV, which will be positioned between the XUV300 and the XUV500. It is reported to be named Mahindra XUV400 and could be the first car to be produced by a joint venture between Mahindra Groups and Ford Motors.
The mid-sized C-SUV which is codenamed as S204 will be built on a Ford platform and use Mahindra engines. It is expected to be launched in two models- a 5-seater model and a 7-seater model. It will also be available in BS6 Compliant 1.5L diesel and petrol engines.
The exteriors and design of the XUV400 are likely to be taken from the XUV300 and would have features like the chrome garnished grille, flanked by sharp LED headlamps with bi-projectors and integrated daytime running lights along with a Skid garnish plate.
The Mahindra-Ford JV’s first model is expected to be showcased at the 2020AutoExpo, but only in its concept form. The car will be launched for production in 2021 or 2022.
The C-SUV will surely give a tough competition to the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross, Honda HR-V, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, and Nissan Kicks.
