The fourth-generation Suzuki made its global debut in the year 2018. It was a much-awaited, highly anticipated and long-delayed global debut. Indian car lovers have been, since then, demanding for its launch in the Indian market. All the while, Maruti Suzuki has been denying launching of Jimny SUV in India.
According to the latest report, Maruti Suzuki will be launching a Jimny SUV in the Indian auto market around 2022-23. The mid-sized SUV will compete against Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
It is expected that the Suzuki Jimny will be launched as the next Gypsy in the Indian auto market.
Maruti Suzuki will place this all-new mid-sized SUV below Vitara Brezza. This hints towards the introduction of Jimny as a three-door mini off-roader. The more extended version of the Jimny will have five doors. It will be 4 metres longer and more expensive than Brezza.
The dimensions of the fourth generation Maruti Suzuki Jimny is 3480 mm, 1645 mm and 1720 mm. The wheelbase is about 2250 mm. The ground clearance is around 210 mm. Maruti Suzuki may bring about a minor change in the Indian spec version. It can use the extended-wheelbase model for creating enhanced cabin space.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV will have a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The middles sized SUV will have a capacity to produce 102PS of power at 6000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
The manufacturing of Jimny will take place at the Suzuki plant in Gujarat. It will also be up for exports in the global markets. Jimny will enjoy a premium positioning in the auto market of India. Nexa retail chain will be selling this mid-sized SUV. However, Brezza continues to be sold by the Maruti Suzuki Arena retail channel. The new model will target two types of buyers – the urban user and the hard-core off-roader.
