Price

The prices of both the MG Gloster and the Toyota Fortuner are extremely similar and this creates a tough competition between the models in the SUV segment market. The MG Gloster comes with the latest BS-VI pollution certification and you can expect the price to be more than 38,000 USD 

     

The top variant can have the ex-showroom price to be ranging from 42,000 USD up to 54,000 USD. You can expect it to be more expensive than its counterparts in the same segment. However, it will probably be less pricey than the Toyota Prado and Land Cruiser.You may have to wait till October 2020 to get the final price listings as according to the announcement of the launch date it is to be close to the festive season. 

The Toyota Fortuner is on sale at an ex-showroom price ranging from 31,990 USD to 52,990 USD. However, the Fortuner is about to get even more expensive due to the BS-VI update coming soon to all vehicles. 

Specifications

The MG Gloster has on offer two engine variants, a petrol engine and a diesel engine model for the customers to choose. The 2.0-liter petrol engine variant is turbocharged and delivers a peak torque of 360 NM while the maximum power figures stand at 224.34 PS. Both the engine variants have a considerable performance advantage over their counterparts in the Toyota Fortuner. 

     

The diesel engine variant also has a similar displacement of 2.0 liters and integrates the twin-turbo technology. It has a peak torque of 480 Nm and maximum power delivery of 218 PS. The transmission systems available are an 8-speed torque converter unit and a 6-speed manual unit.  You may also opt for a 4 wheel drive with the diesel variant. 

The Toyota Fortuner also provides you with the choice of petrol and a diesel engine unit. Even though they are powerful, they cannot compete with the sheer numbers of the MG Gloster. The petrol version has a whopping 2.7-liter displacement and produces a peak torque of 245 Nm and a maximum power of 166 PS. You can also choose to install a Toyota 4 runner roof rack to the Fortuner to accommodate more luggage on the top of your vehicle. 

The diesel engine variant houses an even bigger 2.8-liter engine unit and produces a peak torque of 450 Nm with the automatic transmission and 420 Nm with the manual transmission. The maximum power delivery of the diesel engine variant is 177 PS and you have the option of choosing a 4-wheel drive with the diesel version. Both the petrol and diesel variants come along with the choice of either 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. 

     

Features

You can expect the MG Gloster to offer the best features and interior of the segment. The features on offer are using plush materials, ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, 12.3-inch touchscreen, 8-inch multi-info instrument console, Ismart technology and many more. Other prominent features include leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats and ventilation, massage and heating functions. 

The Toyota Fortuner has features such as multi-functional steering wheel, cooled glove box, automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, 7-inch infotainment system with touch screen and sat-nav and many more. Apple car play and Android Auto support are the key features the Fortuner lacks.

If the quick rise to the popularity of the MG Hector in the SUV market is any indication, the MG Gloster is a serious contender to compete for the top of the market segment. The uncompromising quality and the unique aesthetics of the British manufacturers is something that may give them a distinct advantage over the Toyota Fortuner.
