For everyone fascinated by MPV’s on the road, pretty sure that the car spotted is an Innova. Such has been the impact of the car in terms of performance, comfort and everything when it comes to this segment. Hearing the roaring success of Innova, Kia is ready to launch its premium MPV, the Carnival. Though it might be kind of an apple to orange comparison to compare both the cars however, as they cater to the same segment, lets see what the latter is going to bring on the table which may chew away the market of Innova.
In terms of size, expect Carnival to occupy more space than Crysta. 5.1 m in length and 3 m plus wheelbase is definitely something new in the market. While this might look a huge vehicle to drive, this makes it spacious and comfortable for the passengers seated. What is better is that Kia will offer it in three options of seven, eight and nine seat versions. There is a notable difference in the boot space as Kia is offering 540 litres of boot while Toyota is offering a 300 litre.
Performance and Handling
Kia is bringing a thundering 8 speed automatic gearbox with one engine-gearbox combination, it comes loaded with a powerful 2.2 litre four cylinder diesel engine which will churn out a torque of 440 Nm at 1750-2750 rpm. Crysta on the other hand has a 2.4 litre engine churning out a torque of 343 Nm at 1400-2800 rpm.
Both score quite high with Carnival inching further due to additional safety features like front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system and an electric parking brake. Apart from this, it includes a powered tailgate, wireless charging and a power-adjustable and ventilated driver’s seat, along with creature comforts like three-zone climate control, Nappa leather upholstery and a dual-pane sunroof. To keep you entertained enough for long hauls, it is likely to include dual 10.1-inch rear-seat entertainment screens.
Toyota’s package includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors and automatic headlights. As you step in and rest yourself on the leather upholstery, you find automatic climate control, cruise control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The Price tag for BS6 Innova reads Rs. 16.14 lakh to Rs. 24.06 lakh while that of Carnival is expected to read Rs. 26 lakhs and go upto Rs. 30 lakhs.
