Surge in sales for MPV and SUV in financial year 2021!

SIAM, the apex industry body, of late came up with the wholesale vehicle numbers for the period of February 2021 for the Indian automobile industry. It also presented the cumulative data for the period between April 2020 and February 2021. As per the data, the UV segment is doing well in a disturbed market.

     

The passenger vehicle (PV) industry is still facing issues. In the last 11 months, the sales have been about 23,35,808 units. Among them, about 13,36,473 units of passenger cars and 96,384 units of vans have been sold. Only the UV or utility vehicle segment is doing it right nowadays. By selling about 9,02,951 units, it is in safe territory.

Annual UV sales most likely to surpass the one million mark this FY

The UV segment, which includes MPVs as well as SUVs, has made a sale of about 1,00,000 unit mark in the period ranging from October 2020 to February 2021. Even the early impacted months during COVID 19 did a good job.

Since the UV sales for the first 11 months of FY2021 in the domestic automobile market has been 902951 units, it will be safe to assume that the UV sales will conveniently cross the one million mark this year itself.

Indian automotive industry came closes to hit the one million mark in UV sales in FY2020 as well. The number of units sold was 946010. In FY2019, about 941461 units had been sold.
